Milk and Silver

0 1 min read 5 hours ago

When the moon rides full and heavy, the water in the basin turns to milk and the tub becomes a pool of poured silver. To bathe in such an hour is to be dressed by the moon’s own hand.

Where a cleansing bath strips away what clings, this one clothes instead, laying blessing upon blessing until nine soft graces rest upon the skin. It reaches toward an old kindness: to be washed not clean but favored, and sent onward already loved.

The Working

  1. As the full moon rises, set a bowl of water on the sill where her light can reach it, with a pinch of salt and a few pale herbs — chamomile, elderflower, a curl of mint.
  2. Let the water drink the moonlight while you draw a warm bath, then pour the moon-water into it.
  3. Speak the first grace as you step in, and name what you wish blessed in yourself.
  4. With cupped hands, pour the water over your shoulders nine times, giving a fresh grace at each pour.
  5. Sit a while in the silver stillness and let the ninefold blessing settle like dust upon the surface.
  6. Rise without haste, and leave a trace of the water to finish drying upon the air.

The Incantation

Milk of moon and silver rain,
pour your kindness through my grain.
Nine the graces, nine the pours,
nine the blessings night restores.
Not washed away but wrapped in light,
I rise in favor from the night.

Let the water drain slowly, carrying nothing away but leaving the grace behind. Clothed in the moon’s silver, you step from the bath already blessed for the days ahead.
