The Best Time to Cast
Cast on the night of the full moon, when the moon lays a silver road across every dark water and every dark field and a sign drawn well will not be forgotten. Build toward it through the waxing moon, whose swelling light is the tide that draws things home. Monday, the Moon’s own day, deepens the working, so a full moon that falls on a Monday is the strongest night of all. Work where the moonlight falls unbroken upon your paper.
The Working
- On the night of the full moon, burn a pinch of dried herbs to a fine grey ash and let it cool in a dish.
- With a fingertip dipped in oil, draw upon dark paper a circle crossed by a single line, the road, and mark one end with the first letter of home.
- Sprinkle the ash across the wet oil so the sign stands out in grey, then tip away all that does not cling.
- Lay a lodestone or a piece of magnetite at the marked end, and set a lit candle above the whole design.
- Let the moonlight and candlelight fall together on the sigil, and speak the incantation while the wax drips a single seal upon the paper.
- Fold the paper around the stone, oil-side inward, and carry it or hide it near the door.
- On each full moon after, unfold it beneath the light and speak the words again until the road is walked.

Variations & Substitutions
- No lodestone? A piece of amber or hematite will hold the drawing power; both are grounding stones that anchor a safe return.
- Choose your ash with purpose. Burn rosemary if you want the wanderer to remember, comfrey if the danger is the journey itself, or sage if the road needs clearing first.
- No dark paper? Any pale sigil traced in oil on ordinary paper will still take the ash; the darkness only helps the grey compass stand out beneath moon and candle.
A Word on Intent
Wiccan practice is bound by the Rede: an it harm none, do what ye will. A homecoming spell must never bend another’s will or compel a person who has chosen freely to be elsewhere. Cast this only for someone who wishes to return and is kept from it by distance, danger, or forgetting — never to trap, summon, or overrule the unwilling. Draw the road; let them choose to walk it.
