- A small hand bell with a clear, clean note

The Best Time to Cast
Cast this on the new moon, the moonless night when the house is only its bones and its shadows. With no lunar light to fill the rooms, the dim corners stand exposed and ready to be cleared, for the dark of the moon is the natural hour to empty out what has soured before the coming month fills the home again. Work it on a Sunday if you can, whose solar, consecrating energy lends the blessing warmth and authority. Where blessings that seek to grow and increase favour the waxing or full moon, this working chooses the empty edge of the cycle on purpose: you cleanse first, then let the returning light bless what you have made clean.
The Working
- Dissolve a fistful of salt in a bowl of cool water and stir it widdershins until it clouds, naming your intention to hallow the house.
- Begin at the room nearest the door and ring a small bell once into each corner, listening for the note to die entirely before you move.
- Where the bell has sounded, touch a wet fingertip of the salt-water to the wall and speak that corner clean.
- Carry bowl and bell through every room in turn, counting corners as you go until you have blessed nine.
- At the ninth, pour a little of the water across the sill of the outermost door.
- Set the bell mouth-down upon the bowl and leave both until dawn, then dry the bell and pour the water out beneath a living root.

Variations & Substitutions
- No bell? A tuning fork, a struck singing bowl, or even two clean spoons chimed together will carry the same clarifying note into each corner.
- In a larger home, still keep to nine corners. Choose the nine that feel coldest or most neglected; the number matters more than the tally of rooms.
- To deepen it, steep a sprig of rosemary or a few grains of frankincense resin in the salt-water, or cense each room before you ring, weaving protection and sweetness through the blessing.
A Word on Intent
Bless only the home that is yours to bless. The Wiccan Rede counsels an it harm none, do what ye will, and a blessing laid over someone else’s threshold without their wish is a working set upon a person, not a place. If you share the house, share the intention: cast for the good of all who live there, and name no one against their will. Cleanse the corners, not the people. Let the rite lift the room and leave each soul free to meet it as they choose.
