Sinew and Seven Strands is a healing knot spell: a braided cord tied with seven knots, each carrying a spoken word of returning strength, then bound into a ring to be worn until the moon stands full. Under a waxing moon everything leans toward more: more light, more tide, more strength returning to the tired. This working reaches toward the rebuilding of what illness has worn thin, the plait becoming a scaffold the body climbs, each strand a sinew relearning its old office, each knot a rung set firm into the returning strength.

What You Will Need
- Three lengths of thread, ideally in blue, gold, and green.
- A healing oil infused with chamomile, rosemary, or eucalyptus.
- A quickening crystal for the centre of your work, such as clear quartz or amethyst.
- A quiet space and a few uninterrupted minutes while the moon is waxing.
The Best Time to Cast
Work this cord under a waxing moon, and if you can, on a Sunday, the day of the Sun. The rising moon lends its own upward tide to any spell of increase, so that the strength you knot in seems to swell along with the light. Sunday and its solar, Fire-natured vigour add the spark of vitality and life-force that healing asks for. Together they turn the cord into something that grows stronger as the moon fills toward full.
The Working
- Choose three lengths of thread and anoint each with a little oil pressed from a healing herb.
- Lay a small quickening crystal at the center of your working space and braid the three threads above it.
- As you braid, breathe over the plait and picture strength rising in the one who needs it.
- Tie the first knot near the top and speak a single word of health into it.
- Work downward, tying seven knots in all, giving each its own word of returning vigor.
- Pass the finished cord three times around the crystal to charge it, then bind its two ends into a ring.
- Give the ring to be worn at wrist or throat until the waxing moon stands full.
The Incantation
Seven rungs upon a stair,
climbing strength through braided hair,
sinew, breath, and rising tide,
knot the vigor deep inside.
As the moon grows round and whole,
grow the body, grow the soul.
Variations & Substitutions
- No infused oil? Steep a chamomile teabag or a sprig of fresh rosemary in a spoonful of plain carrier oil overnight, then anoint the threads with that.
- Choosing your crystal: clear quartz amplifies and quickens, while amethyst steadies and soothes. Reach for quartz to rouse flagging energy, amethyst when the illness is one of rest and calm.
- For a distant loved one: keep the finished ring on your own altar beside a photograph or their written name, rather than sending it to be worn, and picture them each time you pass.
A Word on Intent
Healing magic is only ever cast with the knowing consent of the one it is meant for, and never over someone against their wishes or in place of the care of a physician. Hold to the Wiccan Rede, an it harm none, do what ye will, and offer this cord as support for the body’s own returning strength, not as a substitute for medicine. Worked in that spirit, it harms none and asks nothing back.
