What You Will Need
- A handful of dried bay leaves, plus three whole leaves set aside for the blessing
- Dried marigold (calendula) petals
- A small pot for steeping, and a bath to draw
- A carrier or blessing oil — a light olive, sweet almond, or sunflower oil works well
- Optional: a green aventurine, citrine, or jade stone for the tub’s edge, and a green or gold candle for dusk light
The Best Time to Cast
Cast at dusk, the day’s gentle threshold, when the light goes amber and the old herbs of luck give their gold most freely to warm water. Dusk is a between-time — neither day nor night — and such thresholds are when gifts are given most easily. Time it to a Thursday under a waxing moon if you can: Thursday belongs to Jupiter, planet of fortune and increase, and the swelling moon draws luck toward you rather than away.
The Working
- As evening comes on, warm a pot of water and steep in it a handful of bay leaves and marigold petals until the water runs gold.
- Draw a bath and pour the strained brew into it, setting three bay leaves aside.
- Add three drops of oil and swirl the water sunwise with your open hand.
- Sink in to the shoulders and rest there while the light fails, breathing the steam and letting the color settle on you.
- Before you rise, press the three saved bay leaves to your brow, your heart, and your open palm, naming a luck for each.
- Step out without rinsing and let the air dry you, so the blessing stays.

- No bathtub? Steep the herbs as a strong brew and use it as a final rinse in the shower, pouring it slowly from crown to feet without rinsing off.
- For the oil, sweet almond or sunflower carries the sun’s-favour theme; add a single well-diluted drop of bergamot or cinnamon essential oil to sharpen the luck-drawing pull.
