Milk-White Threshold

As the moon fattens from a paring toward its round silver, a small pouch of herbs becomes a charm that grows kinder each passing night. Sew it while the light is climbing, and it will climb with you.

This sachet is a blessing you can carry, worn at the breast or tucked beneath a pillow, drawing steady increase, gentle luck, and quiet keeping. It gathers grace the way the waxing moon gathers light, a little more each night, asking only that you renew it when the circle closes.

The Working

  1. Under the waxing moon, lay out a square of pale cloth and heap upon it blessing herbs gathered in odd numbers.
  2. For each handful you add, name aloud one good thing you wish to see grow.
  3. Ring a bell once, clear and low, over the herbs to wake them.
  4. Draw the four corners of the cloth up together and bind them with thread, knotting it three times.
  5. On each knot, whisper an old name of the Lady, or the name of the moon you were taught as a child.
  6. Hold the sealed pouch up to the moonlight until it is cool to the touch.
  7. Carry it close until the moon rides full, then loose the herbs to the wind and make it anew.

The Incantation

Little moon within my hand,
grow as fields grow, grow as sand,
gather grace from night to night,
fatten sweet and fatten bright.
Bell that wakes and thread that binds,
bless the road this small charm finds.

Bound in thread and sung over by the bell, the blessing sleeps sweetly in the cloth. It is released a little at a time, unspooling grace with every night the moon climbs higher.
