Every doorway is a mouth that swallows comings and goings, and what is written above it flavors all that pass beneath. At dawn, when the first gold spills over the sill, a sign laid on the lintel drinks the sun’s blessing into the very frame of the house.
This is a charm of welcome and warding both: a mark that greets each crosser with favor and turns ill-wishing back into the cold. It reaches toward the old law of thresholds, that a door dressed in light lets no shadow settle, and a house so marked stands warm to friend and closed to harm.
The Working
- On a small square of paper, at first light, draw a sun-sign of your own devising — a wheel, a rayed eye, a spiral turning outward.
- Anoint each of its rays with a fingertip of oil, drawing the line from the center out toward the world.
- Set a sunstone or a piece of citrine upon the sign and let it lie in the dawn light until the paper is warm to the touch.
- Speak the blessing over the mark, naming your house and all who dwell and visit within.
- Fix the paper above the door, on the inner face of the lintel where few eyes fall.
- Touch the sign each dawn for nine mornings, waking its light with a fingertip and a quiet word.

As the sun clears the rooftops the mark is set, its blessing woven into the wood. The door now keeps its own bright vigil, and all who pass beneath go warmer for it.
