Bone-Deep Cipher

Midnight is the hinge of the day, the instant the old date dies and the new is not yet born. In that narrow seam, a mark drawn with intent finds nothing left to resist it.

This working reaches toward the body’s forgotten blueprint, the quiet order it keeps whenever it is well. The cipher is that order made visible, and once dissolved and taken in, it reminds the flesh of the pattern it was always meant to hold.

The Working

  1. As the hour turns to midnight, sit before a bowl of clean, blessed water.
  2. On a small square of paper, draw your healing cipher in one unbroken line, closing it where you began.
  3. Pass the finished sign three times through rising incense to wake it.
  4. Hold the cipher against the aching part of the body and let it warm to your skin.
  5. Fold the paper toward yourself and lay it upon the water, watching the ink bloom and unwind.
  6. When the sign has wholly dissolved, wet your fingers in the water and touch them to brow, breast, and the place of hurt.
  7. Pour what remains over the roots of a growing thing before the clock can read one.

The Incantation

Drawn in the seam of night,
line unbroken, closed and right,
loosed in water, taken in,
order, settle in the skin.
Body, read what I have penned,
and along that pattern, mend.

The cipher is sealed the moment it dissolves and released when the water sinks into living roots. By the pattern it carried, the flesh remembers how to be whole.
