The Working
- When the moon rides full, lay a small table with a white cloth, set for one unseen guest, in the light of a single window.
- Place upon it a whole loaf of bread, a bowl of grain or beans, and a lit candle at its head.
- Kindle incense of frankincense and a little dried bay, and let the smoke wander across the offering.
- Take up a bell and ring it three times toward each of the four quarters, calling the granary-spirits in from every road.
- Break the bread with your hands, leaving the larger half for the guest, and speak the incantation over the table.
- Sit with the offering in silence until the candle has burned low, asking nothing further, only keeping the guest company.
- At dawn, carry the guest’s portion outdoors and leave it for the birds and the earth, closing the rite.

Variations & Substitutions
- No bell? Ring a struck glass, a singing bowl, or clap three times toward each quarter — the clear tone calling the spirits is what matters, not the instrument.
- No frankincense or bay? Burn cinnamon or basil incense instead; both are prosperity herbs and keep the offering-smoke true to intent.
- The offering can shift with what your household eats: wheat, barley, rice, or beans for the bowl, and any whole, unbroken loaf for the bread — a home-baked one carries the most intent.
A Word on Intent
Wiccan practice is bound by the Rede — “an it harm none, do what ye will.” This rite draws prosperity by gratitude, not by taking: it asks the harvest-spirits to fill your own store, never to empty another’s. Never repeat it from hunger or greed, only from thankfulness, for the granary-spirits give most freely to the house that thanks them first. Ask for enough, and let your plenty, once it comes, spill outward as freely as it came to you. Keep the white cloth folded away against the next full moon.
