Mark of the Fat Years: A Prosperity Sigil Spell for Lasting Abundance

A witch draws one green-gold abundance mark on paper inside a salt circle beside citrine, incense, and a green candle at dawn

The Mark of the Fat Years is a beginner-friendly prosperity sigil spell cast at dawn: you draw a personal sign of abundance, burn it into the day’s first light, and scatter the ashes to carry your intention outward. Before the sun clears the sill there is a grey and open moment when the day has not yet decided what it will bring, and a mark made then is a mark pressed into soft clay, and the world sets hard around it. This working reaches toward the fat years, seasons of surplus heaped one upon another like grain upon grain.

Correspondences for This Spell

  • Colours: green for money, gold for wealth, echoed in your candle and in the line you draw with.
  • Herbs: basil, cinnamon and mint, blended into the incense that rises with your smoke.
  • Crystal: citrine, or green aventurine or pyrite, set beside the bowl to anchor the sigil’s charge.
  • Day: Thursday, the day of expansion and increase.
  • Planet: Jupiter, ruler of growth, luck and abundance.
  • Element: Earth, the ground in which plenty takes root.
  • Moon: the waxing moon, to grow abundance as the light grows.

For deeper detail on any of these, see the correspondences guide.

What You Will Need

  • A clean sheet of paper for your sigil.
  • A pen or fine brush to draw a single unbroken line, in green or gold ink if you have it.
  • A small green or gold candle for the first flame.
  • Incense of basil, cinnamon or mint to send the mark out on its smoke.
  • A fireproof bowl to catch the burning paper.
  • A handful of salt to cast the ring.
  • Optional: a citrine, green aventurine or pyrite to sit within reach.

The Best Time to Cast

Cast at dawn, in that grey moment before the sun clears the sill, so your mark is set into the first light and hardens as the light grows strong. Choose a Thursday, Jupiter’s day of increase, during the waxing moon, when the swelling light lends momentum to anything you wish to see grow. Dawn, Thursday and a waxing moon together stack three tides of increase behind one working.

The Working

  1. Rise before dawn and lay a clean sheet of paper where the first light will reach it.
  2. Cast a slow ring of salt around the paper, marking the boundary of your asking and keeping the working pure.
  3. With a single unbroken line, draw your sign of plenty: a brimming vessel, a heaped measure, or a mark of your own devising that means abundance to you and no one else.
  4. As the light touches the sill, kindle a small flame and set the paper alight, letting it burn down into a waiting bowl within the ring.
  5. Loose a thread of incense to rise with the smoke, and speak the words that send the mark out into the day.
  6. When all has cooled, gather the ash and salt together and scatter them upon the wind, across your land or along your path.

The Incantation

First light, take what I have drawn,
carry it forward, year to year.
Let the lean seasons all be gone,
let the fat years gather here.
Grain on grain and full to full,
plenty answer as I call.

Variations & Substitutions

  • If you cannot safely burn indoors, draw the sigil in green ink and bury the folded paper in a pot of soil with a citrine instead; earth carries the intention as faithfully as fire.
  • Swap the loose incense for a smouldering cinnamon stick or a few crushed basil leaves on a charcoal disc; both hold the prosperity current.
  • If you have no salt to scatter afterward, gather the ash alone and return it to your garden, a houseplant, or the threshold of your home or workplace.

A Word on Intent

The Wiccan Rede counsels, “an it harm none, do what ye will.” A prosperity working should draw opportunity toward you, never pull it away from anyone else. Ask for openings, honest custom and fair reward for your labour, not for another’s loss. Plenty freely gathered returns; plenty seized turns lean. Cast for your own increase and let the wind carry the rest. Speak nothing of the mark once it is ash, and let the fullness come as the sun comes, quietly, and without being watched.
