Cast on the night of the full moon, and best of all on a Monday, the Moon’s own day. The full moon is the height of lunar receptivity, when its light falls unbroken and the veil between question and knowing runs thin. Working in the beam itself, rather than merely under a full sky, lets the Water element and the Moon’s clarity carry your single asking straight down into flame and stone.
The Working
- On the full moon, sit where its light can reach you, and set a candle before you with clear crystals ringed around its base.
- Light incense and let the smoke climb straight, then still yourself until your breath runs slow and even.
- Ring a bell three times, letting each note die completely before the next, to open the way.
- Name your question aloud, once, in the fewest words that hold it whole.
- Speak the incantation to the flame, watching how it bends, gutters, or stands tall at each line.
- Fall silent and gaze into the nearest crystal until an answer forms — a word, an image, a plain knowing.
- Thank the moon, snuff the candle between wet fingers, and keep the crystals close until the answer proves itself.

Variations & Substitutions
- If cloud hides the moon, set a bowl of water where the sky would fall and gaze into its surface instead — Water is this spell’s element, and reflected light reads as truly as direct.
- Choose your scrying stone to fit the question: labradorite for hidden or concealed matters, amethyst for dreams and inner sight, clear quartz when you need the signal amplified.
- With no bell to hand, strike the rim of a singing bowl or chime three times, or tap a crystal against the candle’s holder — what matters is a clean tone allowed to fade to silence.
A Word on Intent
The Wiccan Rede holds, “an it harm none, do what ye will.” Divination binds you to it plainly: ask about your own path and your own choices, and do not turn the reading moon upon another person’s private life without their consent.
