Samhain Pentacle Tarot Card Spread

The Samhain Pentacle Tarot Card Spread lays six cards across the shape of a sacred star: five around the points and one at its hidden center. The outer cards speak of acceptance, release, reflection, rebirth, and what must be protected. The central card carries the Crone’s wisdom through them all.

Read it during Samhain when the old year closes and the dark becomes a chamber of transformation. The pentacle does not keep change away. It gives change a consecrated shape.

Preparing the Samhain Pentacle Spread

Place your tarot deck on black or deep violet cloth. Set a small cauldron, dark bowl, or empty cup above it. To the left, place a fallen leaf. To the right, place one seed. These mark what has ended and what waits without yet being seen.

Ask: “What must be accepted, released, transformed, and protected as I enter the dark year?” Shuffle with both Major and Minor Arcana together. Cut the deck once and lay five cards at the points of a pentacle, then place the sixth at the center.

Meaning of the Six Tarot Positions

1. Acceptance. What or whom you need to accept, including the thing that cannot be changed by further struggle. Acceptance here is clear sight, not surrender of your power.
2. Release and Let Go. The burden, attachment, identity, or expectation whose season has ended. This card names what must pass out through the gate.
3. Time of Reflection. What prevents you from shaping life as you desire. Look for a habit of mind, an old fear, or a truth repeatedly avoided.
4. Cauldron of Rebirth. The future now being brewed by your reflections, choices, protections, and developing powers.
5. Keep, Nurture, and Protect. What remains alive and worthy of careful tending through winter.
6. The Crone’s Wisdom. The central voice of intuition. This card reveals what the entire situation can teach you and how the five outer forces belong together.

How to Read the Pentacle

Turn over cards one and two first. Acceptance and release are neighboring gates: one asks you to remain present with what is true, while the other asks you to stop carrying what is finished. Notice whether the cards support each other or reveal resistance.

Reveal card three, then card four. Reflection is the descent; the cauldron is what begins to rise from it. Repeated symbols between these cards show which part of the old pattern is being transformed rather than merely discarded.

Card five is the winter flame. It may name a relationship, discipline, gift, or inward quality that needs shelter. Do not expose it too early simply because card four promises rebirth.

Turn the Crone’s Wisdom last. Read it once as an answer, then again as the voice speaking through every other card. A Major Arcana card at the center deepens the rite; a Minor Arcana card often gives an intimate and practical instruction.

Closing the Samhain Pentacle Reading

Place the release card beneath the fallen leaf and the nurture card beneath the seed. Rest the Crone’s Wisdom above the deck. Write one action for release and one for protection before extinguishing the candle.

Return the cards to the deck at dawn. Carry the seed until the action named by card five has begun.
