Mabon Balance Talisman

The Mabon Balance Talisman is made from one coin held between blue and yellow candlelight. Each flame illuminates a different face of the metal. At the autumn equinox, when day and night stand equal and the Sun enters Libra, the coin is charged to reveal both sides of conflict and guide the hand toward fair judgment.

Carry it into difficult conversations, negotiations, and moments when certainty has made the room too narrow.

Balance is not stillness. It is the art of giving each truth its weight.

When to Make the Mabon Talisman

Create the talisman during Mabon, preferably on the day of the autumn equinox. Sunset is especially fitting: blue shadow gathers while yellow light remains at the horizon. A Friday can soften conflict; a Wednesday can bring clearer speech.

If the dispute feels heated, wait until your breathing is steady enough to describe both sides without turning the ritual into an argument rehearsed alone.

Before the rite, name one dispute or divided situation. Write the first viewpoint on one side of a paper and the second viewpoint on the other. Leave a clear space through the middle. State each position as generously as you can without weakening necessary truth.

Materials

One clean coin
One blue candle and one yellow candle
A stable holder for each candle
The two-sided paper describing the dispute
A blue pouch or square of cloth
A pencil

Blue carries patience, listening, and the cool depth needed to receive another view. Yellow brings reason, clarity, and the courage to name what must be decided. The coin becomes their meeting place: two faces held within one unbroken edge.

Prepare the Question

Set the blue candle on the left and the yellow candle on the right, leaving enough room to work safely. Place the paper between them with its blank center facing upward. Lay the coin upon that open line.

Take six slow breaths. For the first three, consider what you need. For the next three, consider what the other person may need. If the matter involves coercion, cruelty, or danger, do not confuse surrender with compromise. Balance can require a firm boundary. The talisman serves clear judgment, not silence purchased at your expense.

Create the Mabon Balance Talisman

Light the blue candle and say, “I listen beyond my first answer.”
Light the yellow candle and say, “I speak what clarity requires.”
Hold the coin upright between the two candles, far enough from both flames that it remains cool.
Turn the coin slowly three times. Imagine each viewpoint receiving light without erasing the other.
At the first turn, ask what is true. At the second, ask what is fair. At the third, ask what can actually be sustained.
Speak the equinox charm:

Planets of judgment, balance of Libra,
Open the measure no anger can obscure.
Blue flame, listen; yellow flame, see;
Reveal the answer that leaves the spirit free.
Two faces of silver, one circle made whole—
Guide fair agreement without losing the soul.

Lay the coin on the blank center of the paper. Sit until one possible point of agreement, boundary, or next question comes to mind.
Write it beneath the coin, even if it remains incomplete.
Turn the coin once clockwise and say, “I will not mistake haste for resolution.”
Snuff both candles in immediate succession, blue and then yellow.

Carry and Use the Balance Coin

Keep the talisman in the blue pouch, separate from ordinary change. Before a disputed conversation, turn it once between finger and thumb. Remember that the coin has two faces but remains one piece.

At the table of discussion, hold it in your pocket or place it before you. Listen first for the other person’s central need. Then state your own without ornament. Ask one honest question before making one counteroffer. The coin does not make decisions for you; it interrupts the spell of certainty long enough for wisdom to enter.

Renew or Release the Talisman

At the first-quarter Moon, place the coin between the unlit candles and read what you wrote. Notice what has changed. If the matter remains active, light both flames and repeat the final two lines of the incantation. Add one new insight to the center of the paper.

After agreement is found, hold the coin again between blue and yellow light and offer thanks. Wipe it with a blue cloth. Keep it as a companion for balanced judgment, give it in charity so fairness moves outward, or return it to circulation.

The truest balance is alive.

It bends without abandoning its center.
